A W Edwards is partnering with the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation as its charity of choice for many of its current Projects.
This fundraising initiative will assist the Australian-based research group, the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation, to fund medical research for the rare and fatal childhood condition Sanfilippo Syndrome.
Two years ago, A W Edwards along with other Builders and Suppliers, organised its annual Charity Shield Barefoot Bowls Competition in support of the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation; raising an outstanding $90,000 – research dollars that have helped fund vital research projects. A W Edwards is once again calling on its people to get onboard and help make a difference.
What is Sanfilippo Syndrome?
Sanfilippo Syndrome is a rare, genetic condition that causes fatal brain damage. Born seemingly healthy, over time the brain gets progressively damaged. Children experience hyperactivity, sleeplessness, dementia, loss of speech and cognitive skills, mental retardation, cardiac issues, seizures, loss of mobility and finally death. There is currently no effective treatment or cure. Life expectancy is just 12-20 years.
(Jude Donnell (aged 5) who is battling Sanfilippo Syndrome recently visited an A W Edwards construction site in Penrith, Sydney.)
