2021 STEPS FOR SKYE

FAQs

The Challenge

What is STEPS FOR SKYE?

STEPS FOR SKYE is a community fitness and fundraising challenge for Sanfilippo Children's Foundation. It was started last year when two amazing carers set themselves a challenge. Teghan Henderson and Bree Pellow, who care for 11-year-old Skye Robson who has Sanfilippo, rallied 15 walkers to each walk 15,000 steps per day for an entire month. They are back again this year and they are asking you to join them.

Registering

How do I register for STEPS FOR SKYE?

Click here to go to the registration form for STEPS FOR SKYE! Don't forget your step goal is for the whole month of August (15,000 steps a day is 450,000 steps in August). Once you have registered you can change your Step and fundraising goal at any time by logging into your account.

How do I reset my password?

If you can’t login to your fundraising page, there may be an issue with your password. To reset your password, click on ‘Login’ at the top right hand side of this page and select ‘Forgot password’.

Fundraising

Where do the funds go?

Every dollar you raise will drive cutting-edge research projects aimed at halting disease progression, reversing the damage caused by the condition, and improving the quality of life for children with Sanfilippo.

Importantly too, your support will show families they are not facing this devastating disease alone.

Do you have anything to help me with my fundraising?

The fundraising toolbox page on our website has lots of tips and tools to help you raise money but one of the easiest ways is to ask family and friends

How can people donate?

Ask your friends and family to donate directly to your fundraising page. That way the money will come to the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation automatically, and they will receive a tax receipt instantly. If you’ve been given cash, you can donate the money to your fundraising page on their behalf using a credit or debit card

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

How do I update my fundraising goal?

If you hit your fundraising target before 31 August, consider increasing your target! Simply log in to your fundraising page, click on ‘Edit My Page’ and update your fundraising target.

Why aren't the donations I am receiving through Facebook showing up on my fundraising page?

Facebook donations are handled and held by a third party, so we can’t sync these donations with the STEPS FOR SANFILIPPO campaign due to limitations with the Facebook Donate button functionality. Given these limitations, we advise you not to use the Facebook Donate button to raise funds.

If you’d like your friends and family to donate to you, we encourage you to share the link to your fundraising page on your social media pages instead.

Fitness Activity

How do I log my activity?

Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts!

If you track your workouts with Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Strava you can set up you page to automatically add to your tally.

Automatically add your steps:

1. Download the FitbitStrava or MapMyFitness app and set up your account.

2. Log in to your account on the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation website.

3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.

4. Follow the prompts to connect your account.

5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

When using MapMyFitness, you must ‘start’ your workout, ‘stop’ your workout and then ‘SAVE’ your workout.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

Remember, you can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your My Fitness Activity tab of your profile after registering. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.

Manually add your steps:

1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’

2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance.

3. The number of steps will now appear on your fundraising page!

Can I change my distance goal?

Yes, you can set a distance goal that suits you. Simply log in to your fundraising page, click on ‘My Fitness Activity’, set your target distance and save changes at the bottom of the page. Setting a goal that is personally challenging will make others more likely to support you.

Remember, your goal is for total steps over the month of November - so if your goal is 10,000 steps per day then your goal will be 300,000 steps.

Can I start tracking my steps before 1 August?

You certainly can! But we will reset your kilometres to zero on 1 November 2020.
