Meet Our People

Why the Sanfilippo cause?

So many reasons – most importantly, to help families and individuals living with Sanfilippo. The academic challenge of understanding research initiatives, combined with the commercial rigour required to raise research funds for this rare condition, appealed to my sense of service to others. Another noteworthy point is the fact that my position is funded by the St. George Foundation so that no funds are directed away from the research agenda of the Sanfilippo Foundation.

How are you inspired by the work of the Foundation?

Megan Donnell's selfless and courageous decision to create the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation is awe-inspiring. It exemplifies the purity of a mother's love and it will be an honor to work alongside her and the other committed staff of the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation. To have achieved such growth and research investment in only a few years is testament to Megan's determination to find a cure. Through the Foundation, Megan is not merely restoring hope, she is creating hope where previously there was none – I can think of no greater inspiration!

Which value do you bring to our team and how?

Of all the very fine values promoted by the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation, today I'm drawn to Determination. Tomorrow, it could be another or all of the values. If I encounter a setback, I'll lean on Resilience. If success can be achieved by unique means, I'll bring Differentiation. I'm devoted to advancing the mission of the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation by providing families with access to information and vehicles to help fund research designed to improve outcomes for those touched by childhood dementia.

What's your favourite motivational quote?

Not long after Paul Keating was first elected to Parliament in 1969 at the age of 25 years, Jack Lang (twice premier of NSW) told him that "people will say you have plenty of time, that there's no need to rush ... but don't believe them – you don't have a moment to waste". Since I first heard Paul Keating recount that story many years ago, I've often thought of that quote. It's how I've lived my life, it's how I've raised my children and it's how I feel about the mission for the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation. We don't have a moment to waste to promote our mission, help families, raise funds, initiate research and ultimately deliver a cure.
