The Challenge

What is STEPS FOR SKYE?

add remove

STEPS FOR SKYE is a community fitness and fundraising challenge for Sanfilippo Children's Foundation. It was started in 2020 when two amazing carers set themselves a challenge. Teghan Henderson and Bree Pellow, who care for 14-year-old Skye Robson who has Sanfilippo, rallied 15 walkers to each walk 15,000 steps per day for an entire month. They are back again this year and they are asking you to join them.

Fundraising

Where do the funds go?

Every dollar you raise will drive cutting-edge research projects aimed at halting disease progression, reversing the damage caused by the condition, and improving the quality of life for children with Sanfilippo.

Importantly too, your support will show families they are not facing this devastating disease alone.

Do you have anything to help me with my fundraising?

The fundraising toolbox page on our website has lots of tips and tools to help you raise money but one of the easiest ways is to ask family and friends

How can people donate?

add remove

Ask your friends and family to donate directly to your fundraising page. That way the money will come to the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation automatically, and they will receive a tax receipt instantly. If you’ve been given cash, you can donate the money to your fundraising page on their behalf using a credit or debit card

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

How do I update my fundraising goal?

Fitness Activity

How do I log my activity?

add remove

Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts!

If you track your workouts with Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Strava you can set up you page to automatically add to your tally.

Automatically add your steps:

1. Download the FitbitStrava or MapMyFitness app and set up your account.

2. Log in to your account on the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation website.

3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.

4. Follow the prompts to connect your account.

5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

When using MapMyFitness, you must ‘start’ your workout, ‘stop’ your workout and then ‘SAVE’ your workout.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

Remember, you can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your My Fitness Activity tab of your profile after registering. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.

Manually add your steps:

1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’

2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance.

3. The number of steps will now appear on your fundraising page!

Can I change my distance goal?

add remove

Yes, you can set a distance goal that suits you. Simply log in to your fundraising page, click on ‘My Fitness Activity’, set your target distance and save changes at the bottom of the page. Setting a goal that is personally challenging will make others more likely to support you.

Remember, your goal is for total steps over the month of August - so if your goal is 15,000 steps per day then your goal will be 450,000 steps.

Can I start tracking my steps before 1 August?

add remove

You certainly can! But we will reset your kilometres to zero on 1 August 2023.
