Why the Sanfilippo cause?
Sanfilippo is something that no child or family should ever have to experience. While research into treatments and cures for rare diseases has long been neglected, advancements in science and technology have seen a growing momentum towards the development of therapies. It is truly an exciting time in this research space! The Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation helps to fund essential research into the condition, and I hope to contribute to this cause in whatever way I can.
How are you inspired by the work of the Foundation?
Since it’s inception in late 2013, the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation has helped to advance research into Sanfilippo, particularly in Australia. Helping to secure the Abeona Gene Therapy Clinical Trial in Adelaide, along with the Research Australia 2017 Advocacy Award, are two incredible achievements alone. To have come so far in such a short time is a testament to the work of the Foundation, and I find this incredibly inspiring.
Which value do you bring to our team and how?
Differentiation is often an unappreciated value, but I think it is essential. It is vital to be open to new ideas and to think creatively – sometimes, the least obvious way can produce the most amazing result!
