Dr Alison Butt
Why the Sanfilippo cause?
I met Megan Donnell a number of years ago and was blown away by her determination to turn the devastating diagnosis of Sanfilippo into a powerful movement for change – not just for Jude and Isla but for all families living with this disease.
How are you inspired by the work of the Foundation?
Having spent my whole career working in medical research – both as a researcher and for funding organisations – I am well aware how slow and painstaking the research process can be. To see a Foundation go from start up to bringing a major gene therapy trial to Australia, as well as all the other research projects past and current, is truly extraordinary and inspiring.
Which value do you bring to our team and how?
I hope I can bring my energy and resilience to the team. Medical research is a long term endeavour with many setbacks along the way, but the rewards can have incredible impacts on people’s lives.
What's your favourite motivational quote?
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
