Long-time supporter of the foundation Tom Miles has set himself a lockdown challenge. For a whole month, starting on his birthday (29th October), Tom will be camping every night in his backyard to raise funds in support of Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation.
"I’m turning lockdown into a backyard challenge!! 30 nights in a tent in a row in my own backyard!!"
Below we asked Tom a few questions on what motivates him to fundraise for the Sanfilippo cause.
What inspired you to fundraise for the Sanfilippo cause?
I’ve been there since the beginning – the first night at the Ivanhoe and I believe the funds we raise can make a difference.
-Have you done a challenge like this before?
Not really – I usually organise the Bunnings BBQs.
-What do you want the wider community to understand about Sanfiilppo?
For those of you who don't know, the Sanfilippo Children's Foundation supports research into a form of childhood dementia. There's some promising research underway, and so much more is known now about this cruel disease. But there's no cure or treatment. The disease is always fatal.
-Tell us about your event/challenge and why you've decided to do it?
I thought it would be a bit of fun, a challenge given you never know what the weather’s going to be like and I’m a Scout….. I like sleeping in tents!!
-What are you looking forward to most about Event/what are you looking forward to the least?
I’m looking forward to the challenge of making sure my tent’s up properly so it doesn’t leak if it rains….. sleeping in the rain is a challenge.
-Any fundraising tips and tricks you can share?
